What Is RJ45 Connector ?
RJ45 is short of registered jack, it is an interface standard widely used in the network, mainly used for data transmission, comply with IEC (60)603-7 standard.
The RJ45 connector have 8 grooves and 8 contacts, have RJ45 connector plug and RJ45 connector socket receptacle.
The RJ45 connector is an injection-molded module embedded with 8 gold-plated contacts. After the RJ45 plug is inserted into the RJ45 socket, the snap design of the plug and the socket will fix the plug in the socket. During the insertion process, the gold-plated contacts on the RJ45 plug and the gold-plated shrapnel of the RJ45 socket achieves a stable and reliable electrical connection through friction extrusion.
To connect the RJ45 connector to the ethernet cables will need special tools, Network pliers, and the operator should be experienced, there are two wiring standards for RJ44, called T568A and T568B, the wiring order is different.

Accord to different applications, there diffrent types of RJ45 conector, such as shielded RJ45 connector, industrial RJ45 connector, waterproof RJ45 connector.
What Types M12 D Coded Ethernet Cable ?
M12 D coded ethernet cable had been widely used for industrial ethernet, such as Profinet, EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, Seicos III. When used in industrial Ethernet, does the M12 D coded ethernet cable must have an RJ45 connector? The answer is not, as the most RJ45 connection is not waterproof. In some applications, both ends of the M12 D coded Ethernet cable need to have a good waterproof performance. In this case, both ends need to be equipped with M12 D coded connector, each end can be male or female M12 D coded connector.
Cable Assembly M12 D coded connector

The cable assembly M12 D coded connector is field installation connector, come without cables, customer should connect the cable themselves. In the above picture, the left one is plastic male 4 coded M12 D coded connector, the right one is metal shell male 4 pin M12 D coded connector. The above picture is just for reference, connectors from different manufacture may have different apperance, but the pinout should be the same.
Cable assembly M12 D coded connector could have following types:
- Gender : male or female
- Shell material : plastic or metal
- Straight or right angled type
- Coupling way : thread
- Wire connection : solder or screw ( some may also be crimp type )
Before order the user must make sure if they need male or female, straight or right angled connector, metal M12 D coded connector will have much better performance while used in harsh environment, but also the cost is higher. Different 4 pin D coded M12 connector may support different size cable, find out the supported cable OD is very important before order them, or the cable may couldn’t get into the connector. Normally biggest cable OD M12 D coded connector could support is 8-8.5mm.
Prepair tools before install the M12 D coded connector, there’re different solution to connect the cable to the connector, and the required tools is also different, solder screw and crimp each has advantages and disadvantages, the installer should be experienced, or there will be mistakes.
Overmoulded 4 Pin M12 D Coded Ethernet Cable

Accord to different applications the M12 D coded ethernet cable could be different :
- Male M12 D coded connector to RJ45 ethernet cable
- Right angled M12 D coded connector to RJ45 ethernet cable
- Both end male M12 D coded ethernet cable
- Straight to angled M12 D coded ethernet cable
- Female M12 D coded to RJ45 ethernet cable
The overmoulded M12 D coded ethernet cable have various options, as the cable is overmoulded with the connector, the cable length and the cable material should be confirmed before order, the cable could be PVC cable, PUR cable, townline/moving cable.
Front Mount 4 Pin M12 D coded Socket Connector

The front mount M12 D coded socket is made of nickel-plated zinc alloy, has good anti-oxidation, anti-corrosion performance, durable and strong. The installation hole size could be 12.1mm, 16.1mm with M12x1 or M16x1.5 thread.
Back Mount 4 Pin M12 D Coded Socket Ethernet Cable

The back mount female M12 D coded to RJ45 ethernet cable come with a metal shielding tube, mainly used to install on panel for inside connection. As we can see from the above picture, it could be both end M12 D coded socket, or M12 D coded socket to RJ45.
Come without cable and shielding tube is also available.
PCB 4 Pin M12 D Coded Socket Connector

The 4 pin PCB M12 D coded socket could be soldered to PCB, have straight type or angled type, but it only could be back mount, as after soldered to PCB, it would be hard to istall front of the panel. For industrial ethernet application, most times the PCB M12 D coded socket is female.
How To Make M12 D Coded To RJ45 ?

As the M12 D coded connector only have 4 contacts, and RJ45 have 8 contacts, so there will be 4 pin blank at the RJ45 side, the above picture shows the default wire definition of the male M12 D coded 4 pin connector to the RJ45 connector.
The default color of the wires in the ethernet cable is yellow, white, orange and blue.
The M12 D coded ethernet cable have data transfer speed at 100Mbps, our D coded M12 ethernet cable adopt CAT5e ethernet cable, which support up to 1Gbps speed and 100M long.
